*Notes - I've been having issues with my PC over the past week and have been unable to record the response for question 4. I am very sorry and if can record at a later date will do so but until then have uploaded the script*
Evaluation
question 4 script
In this video I will be talking about the
new media technologies and equipment I have used during the research, planning,
construction and evaluation of this project. During this I will describe briefly
what each thing is, both the physical hardware and software and how it has helped
me to produce what I have. I will also conclude what I think about all of the
media equipment and how I feel its effected my product both positively and negatively.
I will also briefly explain what web 2.0 is as its relevant to my overall task.
First of all I will be starting off with
physical media equipment that has aided me in creating my product. starting
with the cameras we used, both being the Sony handy cam and the Nikon DSLR.
The reason we decided to use two different cameras was down to the quality of the footage
both cameras could produce as well as the overall ability to shoot what we
wanted too.
When it comes down to quality the obviously
choice is the DSLR because of its function to shoot in its highest quality automatically
and to play on a high quality directly off the camera onto an editing program without
any quality changes needing to be made to the footage. The lenses we had for
the camera also made getting some shots we wanted to get much easier and of a
higher quality than that of the Hany cam. This camera is defiantly the choice
for quality shots however when it comes down to fast paced action shots like
tracking during chasing shots the Sony handy cam has to take the win. This is because
of how light and compact the camera is as well as how it’s held comparted to
the DSLR being much bulkier and fragile. The handy cam also fixes to the tripod
very nicely making running shots easy to shoot. Speaking of these types of
shots we also used a tripod for a variety of different shots both still and
moving. This is due to some of my background filming knowledge jerry rigging
the tripod into a makeshift steady cam for running shots.
When recording audio we tried using the
built in audio recording in the cameras however a lot of it wasn’t very clear
and had to be re-recorded on a handheld recording device. This was very helpful
because it helped us to easily and professionally produce high quality audio
that could then be edited directly on top of our clips.
We also used two different PC systems
during the creation of our products both windows and Mac. Windows was used for
things like photoshop to create or advisement products like our posters and
magazine covers, Whereas the Mac being much faster and superior at editing being used to produce and cut together the
trailer itself. Working on different machines was also very efficient, getting serval
things done at once as a team and individually.
It’s also relevant here to quickly mention that
a variety of USB sticks portable hard drives and SD cards were used in the
transfer of audio and footage from different machines and equipment.
Next
onto the programs and software used.
First I’ll start off with Premiere pro the editing
software used to produce the edits for the trailer and to create the final cut
of the movie trailer. This program after a few mins of getting used too is very
easy to navigate and use and was very good for professionally producing a
trailer of industry standards. We also used another Adobe program, After
effects to produce the title cards and transitions that were then edited into
the trailer through Premiere Pro.
The last Adobe Program we used was
Photoshop and this was used to all the image manipulation and photo editing we
needed to do for the poster and magazine. Both of these products were produced
inside photoshop using the variously tools to produce a high quality product
and exported as a JPEG image. Photoshop is defiantly the most superior image editing
software and its with that that helped me to produce industry standard
products.
Da font a website database of fonts was
also used when collecting fonts to use on both the magazine cover and movie
poster and was installed temporarily to use in photoshop with a semi-permanent program
called Font viewer.
During the research programs such as Word
and PowerPoint were both used to produce documents and slideshows for things like prop lists, risk assessments and
write ups for the story and plot during the movies planning stages. These
programs alongside of SlideShare an PowerPoint uploading side for sharing
documents, Flipsnack a PDF sharing site, and both Prezi and Emaze both online
presentation websites were also used during the evaluation stages to produce responses
for the questions in a smart looking and professional design.
YouTube was used when researching for other
horror trailers as well as gaining assets such as copyright free music and
sounds to use in our trailer. YouTube is also what we used to upload some of
our media such as our draft and final trailer, and a few of our media questions
such as this one now.
(Some programs were used online such as YouTube
converter to download some of the free
music fast and effectively to use in our trailer.)
Google forms was used to source information
for creating our trailer through creating a questionnaire for our audiences. This
was chosen over survey monkey because linking to my google account made it much
fast and assessable for gaining information or making changes where needed.
Blogger is another google ran site that has been used throughout every stage of
the project to document and upload all of the word produced from start to
finish right up to the end of the course.
In conclusion a variety of software and
hardware have been used throughout every step whilst creating our products, and
it is thanks to these media technologies that I have been able to produce such
professional industry standard products. Everything mentioned in the video has
in one way or another benefitted the production, planning , research and
evaluation in one way or another and although none of them are perfect they
have all helped towards producing products that I’m happy and proud of.
Thank you for watching and listing this has
been my response for my Media evaluation Question 4
